The Waxahachie Foundation originated in 1968 with an initial capital of $9,900. This was composed of two memorial gifts, one of real estate given by Mr. R.F. Chapman and the other was corporate stock, contributed by Mr. Edwin L. Harding.
The Foundation’s assets reached $50,000 within three months of its organization as people recognized its value to the community. Currently, assets are approximately $2 million depending on investment markets.
The Chapman and Harding families are to thank for seeding the Waxahachie Foundation and setting a high standard of community philanthropy.
Grants from the Waxahachie Foundation have ranged from feeding the hungry to supporting the arts. The Foundation seeks to help every age group from children to senior citizens. Currently, the Foundation has helped over 100 different worthy organizations since its inception.
The foundation is operated and controlled by a Board of Directors who serve without financial compensation. Each of the 12 trustees is elected to a three-year term. Each trustee has the option of remaining on the board for one more three-year term before rotating off the board for at least one year before being eligible for re-election.
